Additional Pictures from Kimberly:

Lunch with two of my beautiful great aunts, my grandma’s sisters. It was my first time meeting the nun Adelia. It was incredible for me to meet my aunt Julia for the second time. I remember her visit to me in Los Angeles when I was a small child and we clicked right away, even though I did not speak Spanish growing up and she did not know English. It was very emotional for me to meet her again now that I do speak Spanish.

My new favorite food: arepas! They are similar to tortillas, but thicker, sweeter, and sometimes filled with cheese. Friendly vendors that told me how to be street-smart.

Eric, my good friend, accompanied me on the trip. We shared the backseat with my two aunts

I found a lovely portrait of my grandmother! A photo of my aunts and uncles in the 1980s taken in the States that I found in Bogota.

Eric and I talking to a distant cousin over lunch and my great aunt and I conversing.

My grandma’s cousin and I share a laugh and my great aunt and I trade family stories.

My great aunt and I hold hands while visiting a beautiful church high on the hill with a gorgeous view and me with my grandma’s cousins at the mountain overlooking my father’s hometown.

A beautiful woman that agreed to be interviewed for my project.

Some more stars from my video.
I decided to play with the speeds of my video to highlight the police activity in the background and illustrate what the man was talking about.

  1. Another shot of the police in background
  2. The woman on the right gets suspicious and curious of what is going on
  3. Both women look to see the activity
  4. The police man’s shadow covers the man’s shirt
  5.  The woman is completely muted by the police man’s shadow
  6.  The police man’s shadow blocks him as he says, “The community is totally forgotten”

I was in Colombia during the re-election of Uribe, something that many citizens disagreed upon. At the end, enjoying a good laugh with family.
