The Los Angeles Council of HI-USA conducts a series of environmental and intercultural educational programs. These programs focus on outreach to local-area youth and promoting the HI-USA mission:
To help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling.
Cultural Kitchen
Serving grades 4-12, this six lesson program introduces students to different ideas, values, and belief systems. Cultural learning fosters intercultural understanding, strengthens group communication skills, and teaches students to explore the world and appreciate other types of people. This program includes the coordination of cooking activity, Cultural Passport activity, meals (breakfast and dinner), program supplies, scrap-booking materials, and an HI-USA youth membership.
Culture Quest
Culture Quest is a strong experiential learning opportunity for middle school students. A 3-hour educational visit to Hostelling International Los Angeles/Santa Monica makes culture, the world, and its people tangible for students who are working towards gaining international-mindedness and increasing their cultural competency.
Discover Your World
This 2-day/1-night program packs informative marine science educational lessons and adventure all into one. All food and transportation to and from the hostel are the responsibility of the attending group. The HI-Los Angeles South Bay hostel offers a fully equipped kitchen for preparing meals.
Girl Scouts Go Hostelling
Hostelling International USA (HI-USA) has great programs for Girl Scout and Brownie Troops! Our programs encourages your girls to explore Los Angeles and the world.
